At thegreenlabels, we are all about transparency and impact

We envision a world where all fashion & beauty is made responsibly. A world where people can easily access fashion & lifestyle products that have a positive impact both on themselves and the world.

In 2021 we completely redesigned our sustainability framework to align with who we are at our core, and we developed our 10 guiding company principles from that.

Our values system was at the heart of our operations from the beginning. Yet the four values that began with were too vague and restrictive to address the critical transparency and sustainability principles at the core of our business. Ubiquitous terms and standards are abundant within the world of sustainability, proving the need for a more accurate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) lexicon.

Thus, we moved on to a more transparent and precise model. We now curate labels based on ten values for fashion and accessories & nine for beauty. After thorough research and experiencing the world of sustainable fashion & beauty, we selected the values that enable a higher sustainability impact. Those values help us select products & partners we work with and guide you towards better and more responsible shopping aligned with what you care about the most.

Fabrics & materials have always had a critical condition in our selection. It is impossible to talk about sustainability without discussing fabrics. It is a complicated topic as there are many aspects to consider from the whole production cycle to the durability to the end of the fabric’s life.

We value natural, organic, and recycled fibers and try to avoid synthetic and mixed fibers. We primarily work with labels that use certifications such as GOTS for organic fabrics, Oeko-Tex for the regulatory usage of harmful chemicals, and GRS.

Yet this time, we took the research one step further and wanted to quantify our impact by comparing “sustainable” fashion fabrics with “conventional” ones and what were their direct saving impact. Applying this research, we present to you a quantitative metric that shows how much you contribute when buying from

We first looked at C02 emission savings.

Co2 emission reflects all the heat absorbed by any greenhouse gas released into the atmosphere through the supply chain from production to transportation.

To calculate these savings, we cross-checked several data sources and came up with concrete emissions tables.

We recovered the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) emission coefficients of the different fibers used. We then estimated the emission coefficient for purchasing a conventionally made garment. We did the same to buy a sustainably made garment by recovering the production distribution of the primary eco-responsible fibers used by eco-responsible clothing brands and coupled this with their emission factors.

This way, we set up an amount of Co2 kg eq/ kg fiber that is used in the production of conventional clothing versus the Co2 kg eq/ kg fiber that is used for sustainable clothing and concluded a savings amount.

Further, by multiplying the number of products sold on our website in 2021 linked to their average weight, we reached the following conclusion:

We concluded that in the whole year, our sales avoided 11,03 tons of Co2.

Then we looked at water usage savings.

This metric is about the total water consumption in the supply chain. This water overconsumption leads to a shortage for humans and ecosystems. The use and contamination of this natural resource along the supply chain are a crucial challenge for the population that lives in the production areas.

Of course, the water consumption per product depends on what material the product is made of. To calculate the total amount of water saved per product, we first need to acquire the total amount of water required to produce the various fabrics for both conventionally made garments and sustainably made garments.

Then, the amount of water saved per kg of fiber can be calculated. This amount can then be multiplied by the weight of that product indicating the water savings per product available on

For 2021, the total calculation of water savings was 523073 litres, equivalent to a pool of 26 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 2 meters deep

You will now see the display of water & Co2 savings based on this calculation method on every fashion, accessory, and footwear product.
