FOUNDED IN 2019 – AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
Beautiful, luxurious sleepwear that’s comfortable and sustainable - is that too much to ask? In the summer of 2018, Le Nap Founder, Myrthe van Dieijen, found herself pondering this very question as she readied herself for a trip away with friends. Not wanting to sit scruffily at the breakfast table, she began hunting for suitable sleepwear, only to uncover a rather disheartening mix of frumpy, low quality, and expensive options. She couldn’t help but wonder whether she herself could fill this void in the market.
Unable to let the idea go, she dedicated her evenings to learning everything there was to know about making garments and building a brilliant team, working tirelessly around her PhD studies. There was no stopping her. In true researcher mode, she scoured the world for the ideal fabric that felt soft, looked luxurious, and was sustainable.
One year later, Le Nap - and a whole new way to celebrate and experience downtime - was born, and we couldn’t be prouder, or happier, to be cosying up and kicking back with you.
With regards to sustainability & transparency, what are the "hot topics" you are currently working on and try to improve yourself on?
It probably comes as no surprise that here at Le Nap we like to dream big. And that meant not leaving a single stone unturned on our mission to find the ideal material for our products. Sure, we’re here to keep you looking radiant and feeling cosy, but we had to find a solution that had Mother Earth’s back, as well as yours, at every point of our journey. That’s why we decided to make all our sleepwear from TENCEL™ Modal, which is soft as silk (yet machine washable!), breathable, and made entirely from sustainably sourced beech trees.
In addition, we fully compensate the CO2 footprint of everything we produce. Our care and commitment for our products, the planet and its people doesn’t end at the factory gates. We compensate cradle to grave, which means we work hard to minimise environmental impact throughout a product’s entire lifecycle, from production right through to its disposal.
Le Nap has been officially awarded CO2-neutral® status thanks to our serious and extensive climate efforts in calculating, reducing and compensating global climate impact (no greenwashing here!). Together with CO2logic we’re investing in projects that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the globe.
Sustainable fashion still has a long way to go, and we intend on playing a prominent part in the charge towards a more environmentally conscious industry. We’ll never be done with our environmental efforts - we’re always researching new ways to improve our sustainability practices, and we’ll continue to do so.
With regards to sustainability & transparency, what are your core values that define how your brand operates?
One of the biggest challenges in fashion is to prevent overproduction. We were fortunate enough to see several items of our first collection selling out. For the future, we will use our background in data science to make sure that our supply is able to meet demand, without long lead times.
